I was talking to someone the other day about the impact of being featured and reviewed in different magazines. And now that the month has almost come to a close, I thought I would share with you a few magazines I have been mentioned in over the years. As I’ve already discussed the feature in the editor’s letter of the famous Nikon Owner Magazine, in an earlier blog, I thought I would write about a few others.
The first is ingénu/e — Creative Talent Revealed, with its unique tagline of: “Taking a stand against the uglification of the world”. How wonderfully apt!
It is a quarterly arts & culture magazine covering West and East Sussex and West Kent, following the geography of the South Downs and High Weald areas. It is B5 size, which means it has room for plenty of great content but will still fit comfortably in a handbag or pocket.
I was approached by the editors of this fantastic magazine, who very kindly gave two wonderful book reviews in two different issues for the first two Christopher Daring novels: Spirits of the Dead and The Forest of Riddles.
You see, the magazine embraces all fields of creativity, eg: painting, photography, illustration, printmaking, sculpture, glass art, ceramics; contemporary crafts; theatre, film, music and dance; poetry and prose; creative lifestyle items such as furniture design; creative courses & workshops; festivals and art events.

In 2022, I was approached by Dawn Larder, an editor for a magazine called Cue – the event magazine — for snooker enthusiasts.
They have a few pages dedicated to the creative arts and I was pleased to be featured. Alas, due to inflation, the magazine is currently “resting” — like so many actors — until such time that it can be rekindled back to life.

Incidentally, Dawn is also a phenomenal artist. She’s been my go-to designer for the majority of the internal images you may have seen inside my various books.
For example, Dawn is responsible for most of the fantastic images inside all three of The Christopher Daring Adventures: Spirits of the Dead, The Forest of Riddles and the yet to be released, The Secret Puzzle Box.
And if that wasn’t enough, she has also created many amazing images for my next psychological drama: By Order of the Shaman.

And finally, back in 2011, I was also approached to submit my short ghost story The Figure in the Mist, to a rather unique magazine called Lady Tuck Drivers UK. So when taking a break from some long-haul journey, the ladies could whip out their dedicated magazine and have a good read over a long-awaited cup of tea.

The short ghost story was also heard, in its entirety, on Meridian FM radio in Sussex a few years ago. And since then, it has been made into an animation.
